The Ads screen is where you manage your paid ads on Facebook and Instagram: creating them, seeing how much they are spending, who they are being shown to and whether they are running or stopped.

Ads

Each campaign has its card with what it has spent since it started, against what it is planned to spend, and three figures picked by its objective: purchases, cost per purchase and return in a sales campaign, or clicks, CTR and cost per click in a traffic one. They are totals for the campaign's whole life. A "—" means there is no data yet to work out that figure.

To create them you have the Magic Ad generator. From a sentence describing the campaign, an offer hook if you have one and your own photos or videos if you want to use them, it gives you back up to nine image versions or three video ones, with the text and the visual layout already done, so you can pick which to publish.

In each campaign's settings you decide three things: how much you want to spend, who sees it (age, area and interests) and where the people who click end up. While you adjust the audience, the app keeps showing you how many people you would be reaching, so you end up neither too broad nor too narrow.

The most common mistake when starting out is not choosing where the ad should lead. Without that destination the campaign cannot be saved. The second is setting a budget that is too low for the number of campaigns sharing it: the app warns you when the figure does not add up. How the budget is changed and how it is split is in «Changing the daily budget of your ads».
